"Veruca Salt's second single, "Number One Blind," is getting airplay
everywhere but MTV--what's the problem? Turns out that the band didn't
like the completed video and refused to release it. A compromise was
reached whereby the clip will appear only a few times on the channel's
120 Minutes. It debuts this week; the show starts at 11 PM Sunday.
The band is taping a few live songs for inclusion on the March 26 edition
of the program as well." (by Bill Wyman, Chicago Reader, March 17, 1995,
reprinted without permission) The two live songs taped and shown were
"All Hail Me" and an extended version of "Forsythia."
In an MTV interview, Nina Gordon was asked if Veruca Salt would do Lollapalooza this year [1995], and her response was, "Lollapaloozer? Uh, no." (Heard second hand)
Fig Dish will be one of the openers for Veruca Salt's west coast tour, which is from mid-April to mid-May. (Performance Magazine, March 10, 1995) It is of note that the lead singer, Blake, is the boyfriend of Nina Gordon. It is also of note that Fig Dish was one of the "bands to watch" at this year's South by Southwest.
"Word has it that Salty gal NINA GORDON is so, like, recognizable that she needs an escort when she visits certain Wicker Park watering holes." ("Copping a Bad Attitude" by Tina Trash, Subnation, Volume 3, Issue 13, reprinted without permission) Wicker Park is a neighborhood in Chicago, from which a significant amount of the music in the "Chicago scene" comes.
Sisters Are Doin' It
"Word has it that the original, complete, already-sent-to-MTV "Seether" video
showed both Veruca frontmen NINA GORDON and LOUISE POST singing "yeah" in
front of Randolph Street Gallery; the gals insisted that it had to be changed,
time and cost be dammed, cuz the record just had Nina singing..." ("Copping
a Bad Attitude" by Tina Trash, Subnation, Volume 3, Issue 13, reprinted
without permission) By the way, that place with the sparkly red front of
the building actually exists (the Randolph Street Gallery) and has been like
that for years.
More to come (when I have time to type them in)...
