This explains a lot actually. Whenever I went to New England to visit some friends, people said I had a wonderful Southern Accent (hence the Dixie). Whenever I visited my relatives in the Carolina's, I was complimented on my wonderful Northern accent (hence the Yankee). And the Upper Midwestern? I guess you can't live in that area for 8 years and not pick up some idioms.

So, I come home this evening and, instead of Lauren's usual smiling self, I get this very perplexed look. I couldn't understand why my lovely daughter would not be happy to see me. Then, my wife tells me she pulled Lauren away from Baby Mozart to come greet me. So the look wasn't so much perplexed as "You pulled me away from the TV for THIS?!?!?!"

Ah ... she is my daughter after all.
