Twench's Techincal Jargon Explained

The folks at Whatis.Com have come up with their second annual Halloween Geek Quiz. Are you geeky enough to get them all?

Sigh

Okay ... this waiting thing SUCKS!!!! Debbie and I were getting excited because we thought the time might be near. Well, she went to the doctor today and ... nope. Not close ... not even started. The only good thing right now is that we can attend a friend's Halloween party. Still ... we need this guy/gal to get his/her butt in gear and pop out already.

It's all been a hoax

That's right, Debbie's pregnancy has been nothing more than an elaborate ruse to achieve free pumpkins. That's right ... all this time ... pretending to go to the doctors ... just to be able to walk out of the pumpkin patch with free pumpkins underneath Debbie's shirt with no one the wiser.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I actually read on occasion

For those who don't already know this about me, I'm not an avid reader. I would rather spend my time playing on the computer or watching TV. It's just something in my personality that says reading books isn't all that fun. Now, here's the funny part. If I decide to read a book, I will not stop until I finish it. It's kind of an addiction I guess. When the fabulous author asked me to read her book, I put it off for a little while. Then, one night while Debbie was out of town, I picked the book up at 11:00. I was going to be seeing Stacey the next day and I wanted to have comments about her book. Well, I finished it around 2:00 in the morning. That's right ... 3 hours ... straight through. Of course, this little endeavor led to a very strange conversation the next day as Stacey and I worked out the details of a fight scene using comments like, "If I were to strangle you, this is how I would do it".
Cut to yesterday. Debbie was using the day to be productive and I didn't have a whole lot to do around the house (or at least Debbie was nice enough to let me think that for a day). Around a week ago, Debbie had bought me a book she had heard me mention and figured I would like: The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. I had already spent several hours playing the computer and was tired of that. I was enjoying the serenity of a quiet household (cuz we all know THAT'S not going to last very long). So, I decided to pick up the book and read it. About 2 hours later, I was done (It is a great book and I highly recommend it). Another book, finished in one sitting. Who knows? I may come to like this reading thing after all. There was a calm over the house with the TV and radio off. I kinda enjoyed it.

Just a quick note

Nothing has happened yet. Everything is fine, though there is no progression right now. My gut says the baby will arrive sometime this week. Don't ask me why ... I just have a feeling.

I hate Red Sox fans!

I know this will irk at least one reader of this little diatribe (I love you Becky!). The reason I hate most (certainly not all) fans of the Boston Red Sox is their preoccupation with a certain storied franchise whose home happens to be in New York. Before I go further, let me give an example of this obsession. I had the great privilege of going to a game at Fenway Park last year. Its a great place to watch baseball, even though it's a little cramped. My seats were right by Pesky's Pole, so I wasn't close to the action but did have a good vantage point. The Sawx happened to be playing the Indians that day and it was a very good game. Boston had come from behind to take the lead and were piling it on when, for no real reason, fans started chanting "Yankees suck!"
Whaaaaah?!?!?!? The Yankees aren't here. They can't hear you and frankly, if they did, they wouldn't care. Why are you so preoccupied with this team? Here we are ... watching a great game ... watching YOUR team play a fantastic game ... and you're chanting about the Yankees?!?!?!?!
Well, October is here and the Sawx are pitted against their nemesis for the AL crown. And this series ain't even close. The Yanks are up 3 games to none and the last game was an exhibition of hitting by the Yanks who won 19-8. NINETEEN to EIGHT!!!! That sounds like the score of the Patriots' game. It was during game 3 that Fox interviewed Stephen King, who is a die-hard Red Sox fan. Mr. King, during the interview, claimed that the Red Sox were "America's Team". What? Did I miss something here? When did that happen. There are exactly 2 MLB franchises that can claim to be "America's Team". First is the Cubs. Go to any stadium whent he Cubs are playing and count the number of Cubs fans. If the home team is really bad, it may be easier to count that team's fans. Because, they're outnumbered by the Cubs fans. The other team is the said storied franchise from New York. The reason ... they're winners. Not only do they win, but they win with class. I happen to think Derek Jeter is the best postseason player in all of baseball right now. He may not have gawdy stats, but this guy knows what to do to win. I have found myself rooting for the Yankees this year, mainly because my beloved Orioles are no where to be seen this October.

Wow .. this post has no rhyme or reason does it? Well ... it's my blog and that's my choice, I guess. I'm hoping for a St Louis - Yankees World Series. Let's see how this shakes out.

My pirate name

I gakked this from Mama Bec's blog:

My pirate name is:

Bloody Tom Kidd

Every pirate lives for something different. For some, it's the open sea. For others (the masochists), it's the food. For you, it's definitely the fighting. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

Get your own pirate name from fidius.org.

I also tried the "What Legend are You?", but none of the questions really seemed to be me, resulting in a rather odd selection.

An Important Day

For those of you who I have had conversations recently, you may know that yesterday was an important day. No ... Debbie didn't have the baby yet. Yesterday was the Bill Cosby concert. A few months ago, I begrudgingly bought tickets to this event. I say begrudgingly because I wasn't quite sure if we'd be able to attend. Fortunately, Baby Brown decided to cooperate and, thus, we were able to attend,
The concert was FABULOUS. It was just him on stage with a chair and an oriental rug. No profanity ... no obscene stories ... just good wholesome fun between us and him. The best part was when he asked someone what time it was and realized the show was running long. You see, we went to the 4:30 show because the 8:00 show would be too late. Well, he did not leave the stage until 7:00. That's right. A 2 1/2 hour show!! And I found myself laughing the entire time.

Another anniversary ...

of a great movie! I had no idea until I read this article. The movie, "Shawshank Redemption", is celebrating its 10th anniversary! I loved Shawshank, though I never even saw it in the theaters. I happened upon it one day while channel surfing and TNT happened to be on a Shawshank Redemption Weekend. You know what I mean? TNT picks one movie and plays it non-stop for almost 2 days. Well, this movie popped up and I was intrigued. I loved it and I highly recommend this movie. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are outstanding!
I personally think a 10th anniversary DVD would be a wonderful present for the baby! ;)

A Big Shout OUT!

Yo homies!!! I'd like to send out a shout out to our awesome peeps helloheather and cetan. They dropped by our crib tonight to help move some fishizzle ... man ... even writing I sound white.
Anyway, a BIG GIANT HUGE THANK YOU to Heather and Rob for helping us clear out our living room and dining room tonight. You see, tomorrow, the painters come and we needed to make sure this area didn't look like a closet without doors. You know ... THAT closet ... the one where you must carefully open the door lest an avalanche of crap consumes you. We got a huge amount accomplished. And this wasn't just a "move this pile of crap and make it a pile of crap somewhere else" type of thing either. Stuff for the baby went into the nursery; stuff for my office went into the basement; stuff to throw out or recycle went to the garage for Friday pickup; stuff we didn't know where to put went into the basement ... okay ... so a small portion of the work WAS the "relocation of pile of crap" type work. Overall, Debbie and I couldn't be happier.
Now, she's really worried because she's not completely sold on my idea for this painting. You see, our living and dining rooms are really 1 giant room with a vaulted ceiling. I decided that I wanted an accent wall ... a deep red accent wall. I think this is going to look great. Debbie's not so sure. Tomorrow ... we find out who was right. Stay tuned for pictures.

The Color Quiz

In a blatant show of conformity, I followed both helloheather and writer_grrl and took the Color Quiz. My results were:
you are lightcyan
#E0FFFF

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

Hmm ... I don't know. Now, if extremely virile and sexy were in there, it'd be spot on.

Another crack at the Friday Five!

1. You're the opposite sex. Besides the obvious playing with the new parts, what would you do?
Well, before I answer this, I need to make some assumptions.
  1. This transformation was a total one and not a remove the tool, give him bigger boobs type thing.
  2. I actually have some sex appeal.

Given those assumptions, I would flirt to get something I wanted. I would go to a bar to get free drinks and not pay cover; I'd persuade people to get me things I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

2. You're someone famous. Who and why?
I want to be Thomas Townsend Brown. Because we share a last name and he is the co-discoverer of the Biefeld-Brown Effect.

3. You're the King (Queen) of the World (no, you're not James Cameron). What edict would you pass?
Ban all smoking tobacco. Smokers would be required to attend rehabilitation.

4. You're no longer in Kansas (or this world) anymore. Where are you?
Hawaii ... on a full scholarship to slack off.

5. You have a clone standing next to you and it's going to work/school for you while you get to play hooky. What are you going to do today?
Goin to Vegas baby! I got to try out my new poker skills.
