Movie Previews that don't actually suck

So, it's been a LOOOOOOOOONG time since I've been in a movie theater. Probably close to a year now. But, Thursday night, Debbie and I went on a "Date Night" (trademark pending) to see Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. I'll talk more about the movie later, but what most shocked me was there was not one preview that didn't interest me in some fashion ... NOT A SINGLE ONE. So, below is a list of the previews we saw and my impressions of the movie.

  • Cinderella Man - Russell Crowe as a Depression era down on his luck boxer who captures the heart of a nation. Kinda like Rocky, but based on a true story. It looks like a renter, but I did get a little verklempt in the preview.
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe - This preview easily won the longest title award. Based on the short snippets I saw, the visual effects are far superior to that BBC version made in something like 1970. Actually, the word I used when talking to Debbie was "stunning". This is one gorgeous looking movie. I think we may have just made plans for another Date Night (TM Pending) sometime in 2006.
  • War of the Worlds - Let's just say the demographic for this movie fits in well with SW:ROTS watchers. You have to watch this movie if you want to retain your geek card.
  • Batman Begins - Just an interesting take on the Batman saga. From the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton, we know Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered ... we know he decided to begin his career as a crime fighter by dressing up as a bat. Why a bat? Did he go from teenager to the Dark Knight instantly? How did he get started? This movie answers some of those questions. I couldn't pick out an archnemesis from the previews, but that may be the point. Anyway, comic book movies can be quite entertaining if done right. Just don't watch Elektra.
  • Fantastic Four - Okay, this was a movie Debbie had no interest in seeing. I, however, remember the Fantastic Four so I want to see how badly they raped my childhood. Also, it has Jessica Alba as the Invisible Girl and that's just too hard to resist.

Those were the previews ... watch for my impressions of the movie later on.
