Quicken has Jumped the Shark
I used to be a fan of Quicken, a powerful money management program offered by Intuit, the same makers of Turbo Tax. Now, with this little notification, I have to say I will not be buying their products in the future. I don't care how successful they have been, this kind of attitude shows a complete disregard for the customer.
"Here, buy our product, but we're going to force you to buy a new one in 2 years"
"Oh ... you want a price break? Here's $20 off our $80 software. Enjoy!"
Until this policy is reversed, I, for one, will not be buying their products at all. And just a little side note to the Intuit genius who thought this up, I will not be buying your Turbo Tax products either. You obviously have no regard for me so I will cease giving you my support. Hope you're happy!

[[ As of April 19th, 2005, in accordance with the Quicken sunset policy, Online Services1 and Live Technical Support2 will no longer be available for Quicken 2001 and 2002 users. These services include online bill pay; downloading financial data from your bank, credit union, credit card, brokerage, 401(k) or mutual fund accounts; downloading stock quotes, news headlines and other financial information into Quicken;]]
Am I really reading this right? They've turned their software into a "Pay-to-Play" model and will activly /disable/ your ability to download financial information?
WTF?
What is even more frustrating is how short the 'sunset'period is becoming. Assuming that each product is available on Janurary 1st of it's release year:
Quicken 98 -- April 20, 2004 -- 6 Years
Quicken 99 -- April 20, 2004 -- 5 Years
Quicken 2000 -- May 18, 2004 -- 4 Years
Quicken 2001 -- April 19, 2005 -- 4 Years
Quicken 2002 -- April 19, 2005 -- 3 Years
