Weekend ... this was a weekend?

So how did you spend your weekend? I spent mine working, working, working. Not weekday work mind you ... oh no! I have a baby on the way and that means all weekends must now be spent doing something or I have violated some sacred law regarding a woman's nesting period during pregnancy. For those who aren't familiar with the nesting period, it's that wonderful point in time where the woman decides that not a single room in the house is worthy of a newborn child and therefore must be completely redone. My wife is actually a little saner than most in that she's picked only 5 rooms that need to be redone: the nursery (kind of a duh), the den, the attic, the living room, the dining room, my new office, and the basement.
I know what you're saying: "But Twench, that's 7 rooms!" I know, but the basement, dining room, and living room isn't so much redoing as furnishing said rooms with something other than the crap we couldn't find space for in other parts of the house. Anyway, this weekend, I worked on the attic. My project there is to install a floor so we can reclaim so storage space lost during the basement refinishing project. I won't go into the gory details, but this has been a nightmare. For starters, our builder used 2x4's as the joists. This is fine, except there is something like 6 inches of insulation in the attic. That means I can't just put some plywood on the joists cuz there's no room. So, right now, I'm raising the floor by placing more 2x4's on top of the existing joists perpendicularly (means crossways for those less mathematically inclined :) This wouldn't seem too bad except for a few minor details, like the fact that there is PVC pipe that rises about 3/4" above the joists. That means I can't just lay the new 2x4's on top ... I have to cut notches in them so they will not break the PVC pipe. After my 6th trip from the attic to the garage where my tools were and back again, I had had enough of that nonsense. However, I soldiered on and now and I finally got the notches cut right.
Then there is the conduits. These lovely metal pipes are used to run electrical wires from various lights and other electrical thingamajigs. Notches won't cut it here as these little dealies rise a full 1.5' (that's feet!) above the 2x4. There's no way I could raise the floor that high. So, now, when I start laying down the plywood flooring, I have to cut it at all kinds of weird angles just to get it to sit right. *sigh* I'll probably rant more tomorrow, but I'm tired of typing and I probably should do some work at some point today. Until next time!

Oh, sweetheart! I think you are making things a little worse than they are... after all it wasn't the enite weekend you spent working. :) The evenings of Saturday and Sunday had nothing to do with the house. Granted, there is plenty to do in four months and I hear you there.
