Rejected Baby Names
WOW! Has it been a week already!!! Man, I am such a slacker. I will endeavor to improve my consistency here. I have several ideas for posts. Hopefully, I'll remember them.
Anyway, today's post brings you rejected names for our new baby. As many of you may know, Debbie and I already have names picked out. In fact, we've had them for a few years now (not that we're planners or anything). Just so you know, our last name is Brown so keep that in mind as I list rejected baby names.
Molly - They labeled the Titanic unsinkable and look what happened to that!
Charles - Does this really need an explanation?
James - The last thing we need is our baby being born with a red velvet cape screaming "I feel good!"

No lie...this is a true story. When I was working on my last project, I was trying to come up with a kid's name for a character. I liked the name Charlie. Cute, harmless, right? Well, I'm going along with that name and then I get to the point where I refer to the parents of that child by their last name (instead of Joanna and Sam, not their real names, I can't remember what I actually named them, isn't that terrible?!?), I called them Mr. and Mrs. Brown. And then I realized I'd named their kid Charlie Brown, without even realizing it!!! Then, even though I was laughing, I was kind of disappointed because I liked the name Charlie. But I moved on to my next choice, Jamie. Which I immediately had to discard because his full name would have been, of course, James.
This actually happened. I'm this big of a dope, that I didn't realize what I'd done at first!!!
I'm sure your names are great -- don't suppose you want to give us any hints? (just kidding!)I think I might know one...unless, Ed, you've changed your mind in the ten years that I've known the two of you : )
I'd avoid "John", unless you want people singing about your child's body "a-mould'rin' in the grave". Gross!
You know, I said I shouldn't use John, but most people I told that just gave me a blank stare. "You know ... John Brown ... Abolitionist ... a few years before the civil war ... attacked an army arsenal at Harper's Ferry and armed a bunch of slaves ... hanged for treason" The blank stares just made me sigh. And yes, I did forget about Robert, but ... wait for it ... It's My perogative! HA! I kill me!
Oh yeah...no Julie. (Think...what was it? MTV? Downtown Julie Brown is who I'm thinking of.)

You might also want to avoid Nicole...as in Nicole Brown Simpson. Also not a happy name...

You crack me up sometimes!
I have a suggestion for next time you run into that situation. If you are attached to part of a person's name and you introduce the other part later only to realize it doesn't flow, change the one you aren't attached to. That way you could have kept Charlie but made him Charlie Johnson (for lack of a better imagination). I bet you thought of that later though...

The "Actually" in my previous post wasn't mean to express my surprise at your good idea, more my surprise at my own supreme doltish-ness for not realizing your very good solution earlier and saving myself a whole lot of angst. But I didn't know if that would come through in the tone of my post -- printed words suck when it comes to getting across tone -- and wanted to make sure you knew what I meant!!!
