Another disaster averted
Just when you though the union saga was over, it reared its ugly head again this weekend. The last contract negotiation dealt with the CWA, this contract negotiation was with the IBEW. Once again, Debbie found herself with the looming prospect of working 12 hour days, 7 days a week. Not real nice. Now, you may or may not know that she also happens to be 5 months pregnant, so shouldn't she get some special dispensation for that? Well, we found out that she could indeed get a doctor's note stating she could only work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. This nicety brought one little caveat ... she would then be considered on disability and would be barred from all travel (personal or business) under threat of employment termination. That means we wouldn't be able to go to Denver for my brother's wedding (more on that later), we wouldn't be able to go to Detroit or Baltimore before the baby was born. A lot of problems arose. Fortunately, the whole situation is close to being resolved. A tentative agreement has been reached with IBEW so now, this is all a moot point. Thank goodness!
